The Canadian Cosmetics Careers Association's text-based learning program was first published in 1980 and since then has had five revisions.

The first unit focuses on the practical skills and knowledge needed in the cosmetics industry, while the second unit takes a more in-depth approach concerning the actual operation of a cosmetics department (from selling to inventory management).

The latest edition of this text-based Course provides students with the knowledge and skills required to pursue a rewarding career in the cosmetics and fragrance industry. The Course outline is as follows:

UNIT ONE

Skin: Structure and Types
Health and Skin Care
Cosmetic Chemistry
Product Knowledge
Colour Theory
Makeup
Camouflage/Paramedical Makeup
Hair Care
Nail Care
Fragrance
The Male Market
Aromatherapy

UNIT TWO

Communication
Customer Service
Selling
Visual Merchandising & Display
Inventory Management

Developed by industry experts, each chapter gives detailed theoretical knowledge of each topic, provides self-testing learning checks and exercises and features a wide range of business-building ideas.

Given that this is the only course of its kind in the world, graduates come from across Canada, the U.S. and many European countries. They represent a cross-section of professional backgrounds and include cosmeticians, beauty advisors, counter managers, direct-sales consultants, makeup artists, freelance demonstrators, marketing managers, company trainers, sales representatives, estheticians, hair dressers and college students.

The learner has up to a year to study the material and after successfully completing the home examination with a minimum grade of 75%, will receive a CCCA Correspondence Course certificate, which is recognized throughout the cosmetics industry.
In addition, graduates will receive a complimentary one-year membership to the CCCA. The exam can be requested any time after four months of receiving the Course.
